FS Extra 👣 Remember what you once overlooked

There's a special day each year that has a way of making us stop and think about the little things we often overlook during everyday life.
Not the grand gestures or expensive gifts, just the quiet moments that shaped us more than we realised at the time.
Today’s collection of reflections and stories is one I put together years ago and it reminds me how deeply ordinary acts of love can stay with us for decades.
One line especially stayed with me.
“When you thought I wasn’t looking, I looked.”
That simple sentence says so much about life.
Children notice more than we think. They absorb kindness, patience, worry, effort, sacrifice and love even when nothing is spoken aloud.
Sometimes the things that shape us most are the things no one even realises they are teaching.
One of the stories in this collection is about a mother who becomes upset after discovering crayons scribbled across a newly wallpapered wall.
Then she finally looks closely and sees the words, “I love Mommy,” written inside a heart on the wall.
It is such a small story, yet it quietly reminds us how easy it is to become consumed by stress while missing what really matters sitting right in front of us.
Another reflection speaks about all kinds of mothers.
The exhausted mothers, the patient mothers, the struggling mothers, the mothers trying to hold everything together while doubting themselves the whole way through.
It does not paint perfection.
It honours effort, love and the invisible emotional labour so many mothers carry every day.
These poems, videos and quotes say what many people feel
I think many of us become more aware of our mothers’ sacrifices as we grow older ourselves.
We start recognising the tiredness behind the patience, the worry behind the guidance and the love hidden inside all the ordinary routines we once took for granted.
Even if your relationship with your mother has been imperfect or complicated, there are often still moments worth appreciating and lessons worth reflecting on.
This collection is not just about motherhood.
It is about compassion, gratitude, memory and the lasting effect one caring person can have on another human life.
It may even encourage you to reach out to someone today while you still can.
Reflect on the small moments that meant everything
Perhaps you will send one of these poems or stories to your mother.
Perhaps it will simply make you pause and appreciate someone who once cared for you in ways you did not fully understand until now.
Either way, I think it is worth a few minutes of your time.
Sometimes we only recognise the most meaningful moments long after they happened.
