FS Extra 👣 Clear what’s weighing on you

The more we resist difficult emotions, the stronger they often become.

You may have noticed how quickly one uncomfortable feeling can take over your whole day.

Someone says something the wrong way. A memory comes back unexpectedly. You feel anxious, irritated, hurt, jealous or emotionally heavy for reasons you can’t quite explain.

Many of us immediately try to push those feelings away or distract ourselves from them.

Yet strangely enough, the more we resist them, the stronger they often become.

I came across this article on Forward Steps recently that explains this beautifully in a very simple and practical way.

It talks about what to actually do when your “stuff” comes up instead of getting lost inside it.

Clear what’s weighing on you

One part I especially liked was the idea of observing your emotional reactions almost like a film director studying a scene.

Not judging yourself. Not fighting the emotion. Just becoming aware of the exact process happening inside you.

What thought appeared first?

What feeling followed?

Where did you feel it in your body?

What story did your mind immediately begin repeating?

That level of awareness changes something.

When we stop automatically reacting and start calmly observing, the emotion often begins losing its grip.

That does not mean emotions disappear instantly.

Yet awareness creates space around them instead of letting them completely take over.

Read the article and watch Amanda Gore’s funny video

Sometimes humour helps us loosen our grip on things we’ve been carrying far too seriously for far too long. I think you'll enjoy Amanda Gore’s humorous video about letting go.

We hold onto old hurts, old conversations, old regrets and old versions of ourselves.

Meanwhile life keeps moving.

There is something freeing about stepping back and noticing how much mental energy gets trapped in replaying what has already happened.

That is also why the Mind Sweep and Clutter Clearer gift can be so helpful.

Mental clutter slowly fogs the way we think and feel.

When your mind is overloaded with unresolved thoughts, emotional noise and unfinished inner conversations, it becomes much harder to think clearly or feel emotionally steady.

Clearing some of that internal clutter often creates a surprising sense of calm and clarity.

One of the most important things to remember is that all of this takes practice.

You are not trying to become emotionally perfect.

You are simply becoming more aware of yourself instead of being unconsciously controlled by every feeling that passes through.

That alone can change your experience of life more than you may realise.

Next time something difficult rises up emotionally, perhaps pause for a moment before reacting.

Watch it.

Feel it.

Allow it to be there without immediately fighting it.

You may be surprised how much begins to soften on its own.
