After wondering if a young woman sunbathing in the park was wearing the prudent amount of sunblock, journalist Mary Schmich realised she'd reached the age when she liked to give advice. So she did.

Wear Sunscreen or the Sunscreen Speech are the common names of an essay actually called “Advice, like youth, probably just wasted on the young”, written by Mary Schmich and published in the Chicago Tribune as a column in 1997.

Her article for the Chicago Tribune became one of the first viral emails and was even recorded by director Baz Luhrmann as "The Sunscreen Song" in 1999.
